The Game By Neil Strauss (Amazon ISBN: 0060554738)
The Game By Neil Strauss (Amazon ISBN: 0060554738)
The Game
Why its good:
This is essential reading for any single man. Ironically, many women I've spoken to about the book are familiar with or have already read it. Just released in September, the book shot up to #2 on the Amazon purchase list.

Women have had mixed reactions to the book, which underlies their feelings about any male lifestyle improvement program. Anything a guy does to improve his life or his dating experiences is often seen cynically by women as learning simple pickup techniques to 'get laid.'

Neil was part of a group that really started it all - Real Social Dynamics, using something called "The Mystery Method." The book reads like an expose on this group, started with a small group of men out of LA (residing in something called 'Project Hollywood') and grew to become a virtual international subculture, more active than ever today.

I've met or seen many of the leading people cited in this book, having gone through a few of the related dating programs myself. Some posted reviews challenge the validity of the people or their tales. (Strauss himself even discounts this in his introduction). I can attest to the accuracy of the material.

Neil's conclusions are fascinating. In a press interview he said, "I think the people who don't like the book don't like the idea of the book. But if they read it, they'll see I'm not glorifying the lifestyle. These seduction masters seem like lost little boys who act as thought they just want to play but also seem desperate for love."

In essence, one concludes mastering seduction is an empty success, and not all that difficult through route practice. While not overtly concluding this in his book, the reader comes to realize that the greatest challenge lies in maintaining successful relationships, not simply initiating them.
